What is Transformative Coaching?

Transformative coaching is a powerful catalyst for change. At its core, it is about recognizing and seeing the obstacles and challenges you are experiencing in a new light to set effective next steps. To do that, we look at self-imposed beliefs, habits, or external circumstances to actively challenge them.

This transformation isn’t just about making surface-level changes; it’s about gaining self-awareness, confidence and a growth mindset.

Why is Transformative Coaching Important?

In today’s fast-paced world, you might find yourself in a situation where your usual approaches do not yield the same results, are becoming increasingly uncertain over direction or are even stuck when facing obstacles —be it career transitions, relationship difficulties or personal development goals.

We all encounter moments in life when we realize that something needs to change. Transformative coaching offers a structured and supportive framework to address these challenges and help you create positive, lasting change.

What is the Role of the Coach?

As your coach, I’m your thinking partner. I will use various tools to challenge your thinking, clarify your goals, and guide you through obstacles. While I may not be an expert in your specific life or problem, I specialize in understanding human nature and facilitating change.

I actively listen, asking thought-provoking questions to shed light on thinking patterns that contribute to challenges. I adapt my approach to meet you where you are and foster an action-oriented mindset. This happens within a safe space where we celebrate successes and provide essential accountability along your journey.

My Coaching Approach

My coaching approach combines powerful coaching techniques, visualization tools and tarot to provide new perspectives into familiar challenges and create actionable strategies for transformative growth.

In the first session, we will dive into your life goals and aspirations. It can be a very tangible goal like finding a new job, or much more nebulous, for example, making improvements or changes in an area of life you are dissatisfied with.

This session forms the foundation of our coaching journey as it will give us a view of the topics and help me assess how I can best support you.

For instance, if you are grappling with self-awareness or communication difficulties, we might focus on values, emotions, and thoughts in specific situations. On the other hand, if you are able to explain your values, emotions and thoughts in detail, we might explore how we could look at the situation from a perspective that would help you create change.

As we progress, we’ll identify the specific topics that resonate most with you at the moment. My coaching program is flexible, adjusting to meet you wherever you are on your journey.

My aim is to make coaching a dynamic and tailored experience. I will also always ask for permission before using any of the coaching tools, including tarot, to allow you to take charge of your personal growth journey.

How can Tarot Help with Self-awareness?

The fool card

Using Tarot for self-awareness can be a valuable and introspective process. It can help with encouraging reflection, gaining a different perspective, identifying patterns and connecting you with your emotions and thoughts.

Let’s consider the Fool card as an example. The Fool card often represents new beginnings and taking risks. What is your eye drawn to?

If your eye is drawn to the cliff’s edge, it might signify a fear of taking risks or a hesitation to step into the unknown. This awareness can lead to reflection on what holds you back from embracing new opportunities.

If you notice the Fool’s carefree attitude and the open sky, it might indicate a willingness to embrace change and a sense of adventure. This awareness can inspire you to pursue new beginnings with confidence.

What Coaching Is Not

Coaching has a similar aim to improve someone’s situation with therapy, mentoring and consulting. However, the key distinctions lie in the type of support sought and the underlying objectives.

Coaching is future-focused and centres on personal and professional development, emphasizing skill enhancement and mindset improvement.

I specifically focus on guiding you to visualize and embody your future self, understand your subconscious drivers and blind spots, overcome internal conflicts and resistance, and become intentional with your choices and relationships. All with the goal to support you in designing your dream life.

Coaching Is Different from Therapy

Coaching differs from therapy in its focus and objectives. While therapy typically delves into past experiences, healing, and addressing psychological issues, coaching is future-oriented and geared toward personal and professional development.

Therapy aims to resolve emotional or mental health concerns, whereas coaching aims to enhance your skills, mindset, and performance. In coaching, we work together to set and achieve goals, develop strategies, and maximize your potential.

Coaching Is Different from Mentoring

Mentoring often involves an experienced individual providing guidance and advice based on their own expertise and experiences. In contrast, coaching doesn’t rely on the coach’s expertise but instead facilitates the client’s self-discovery and decision-making.

Coaches don’t provide answers; they help you explore possibilities, uncover your strengths, and make informed choices. While mentoring may involve a hierarchical relationship, coaching is a collaborative partnership focused on your growth and development.

Coaching Is Different from Consulting

Consulting typically involves a consultant with specialized knowledge diagnosing problems and offering solutions to clients. Coaching, on the other hand, doesn’t assume that the coach has all the answers. Instead, it encourages clients to tap into their own wisdom and creativity. Coaches use powerful questioning, active listening, and coaching techniques to help clients find their own solutions and strategies. It’s about empowering you to become the expert of your own life and work, rather than relying on external expertise.

Are you ready for change?

Transformative coaching thrives on a specific mindset and attitude that creates the ideal environment for personal and professional growth.

Openness to Change

The cornerstone of transformative coaching is how receptive you are to new ideas, perspectives, and approaches.

To do this, we sometimes have to confront your current beliefs and reframe them. This requires you to step out of your comfort zone. When you open your mind to the possibility of change, you invite growth and transformation into your life.

Commitment to Personal Responsibility

You are the primary agent of change. While I can provide guidance and support, ultimately, your responsibility to take action, make decisions, and drive your own growth.

For instance, at the end of each session, I will ask you about your takeaways and actions you will take. Next time we meet, I will then check in on your progress. We might also discuss what worked or what got in the way of you completing your next steps to work through any obstacles.

Patience as a Virtue

Transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey that unfolds over time whilst we are dismantling years of social and cultural conditioning. Patience is your ally, allowing you to stay committed to your goals and persevere through challenges. Understand that lasting change takes time and effort.
